Rand Paul is Still an Idiot

via

Hey, gays! Guess what? The junior nutbag from Kentucky has great news for you!

No, it's not an intellectually consistent stand on individual liberty versus liberty for commercial interests, but it's almost as good! When asked if he would strike down the Defense of Marriage Act as a federal interference in states' and individuals' rights to decide who can marry whom, Paul weaseled and waffled, "...that's a complicated issue..." but then came up with a left field idea that might be just as good.

See, you know how you guys are always on about the whole marriage thing? How about this instead: a flat tax just for you and your...what, husbands? Wives? I never could get that straight. No pun intended! Ha ha!

No, really though, here's the idea (via crooks and liars):
Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) on Sunday suggested that implementing a flat tax could assuage gay and lesbian Americans who want equal marriage rights because straight marriages would not get a tax break.

During an interview on Fox News, host Chris Wallace pointed out that the Supreme Court would be hearing arguments this week on the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which prevents the federal government from recognizing same sex marriages even in states where those unions are legal.
Well, come on, I mean everyone knows how teh gheys are about shopping and spending money. Surely they will appreciate this gesture. Think how many more brunches per year they can afford with the savings!

Obama is the best Republican President since Lincoln

O my yes. This is an outstanding screed by Tina Dupuy pointing out just how badly Obama and his corporate whore advisers have screwed the progressives who put them in office. Favorite passage:

President Obama has managed to quell all anti-war protests and even start a new conflict. That is surely to be the envy of any Republican president who’s ever served.

Guantanamo Bay? Still open. Osama bin Laden? Shot in the head.

Talk about getting 98 percent of what they wanted. If the GOP didn’t have to change their goal post so Obama could never score in their view – Republicans could be dumping Gatorade on Rush Limbaugh by now.

Read it--it sums it all up perfectly. As she says, given that the greatest Republican President since Lincoln is in the White House now, chances are a Republican will win in 2012.

the cry-baby party

Here's a great post from Open Left detailing the cognitive dissonance not to mention sheer mad-hatter illogical nature of the arguments for supporting the tax-break giveaway for the rich that Obama has successfully 'negotiated' (read: bent over for) with the Republicans.

Whenever you hear anyone talking about the Dems as the irresponsible tax-and-spend party, remind them of this.

Another handy-dandy chart to keep in mind is this one, detailing how the U.S. debt has changed under various presidents. Whole lotta red growth there, whole lotte blue reduction. Of course, this doesn't take into account that democratic presidents were largely forced to reduce the debt, i.e. clean up the messes left behind by their irresponsible republican predecessors. However it does explode the myth that republicans are the daddy party of fiscal responsibility.

Speaking of which, notice how quiet the deficit hysteria of a month ago has gotten? At least until the tax giveaway for the rich is passed, complete with its $900 billion price tag that will be tacked onto the deficit. Then we can get back to talking about austerity--the kind placed on the backs of the lower and middle class. And watch for Social Security reform (read: privatization) to become a more widely discussed topic again soon too.

Thanks Obama! More change than we can afford to believe in.

wet section or dry section?

There's nothing like the deaths of thousands of your fellow Americans and an anniversary that has become near-holy in this country for...making some quick ca$h!!!

Yesterday, on the anniversary of 9/11, total class acts Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin held a commemoration of the tragedy in Alaska--and they only asked for $65-$200 per person.

And what's a more American way to celebrate than to get yer drink on? Tickets were allocated to separate 'wet' and 'dry' sections so if attendees felt that such a somber moment was getting a little too somber, they could lighten up with a beer.

American beer only, I'm sure!

And hats off too to Ticketmaster for not bowing to the shifting winds of what's considered classy versus tacky, and slapping nearly a ten dollar surcharge on each ticket. Hey, if Imam Glenn can make some dough off of the deaths of nearly four thousand Americans, why not Ticketmaster too?

As Sarah Proud and Dumb stated on her Facebook page:

'Palin declared there is “no better way to commemorate 9/11 than to gather with patriots who will ‘never forget’” at the pricey event.'

Just make sure you 'never forget' your wallet!

Way to stay classy, Republitards.

daddy party? mommy party?

See, I just love running across stuff like this. We are told every election cycle about the republitards being the ‘Daddy’ party (“Get outta that bathroom! And quit stealing my porn!”)

That would make dems the ‘Mommy’ party (“Oh, did hims fall down, go boom? Have a cookie, sweetie. And an unemployment check.”)

In other words, this theory goes, repubs are better at defense, fiscal responsibility, and rule of law--tough guy stuff--while dems wish to coddle criminals, pat the unemployable on the head, and generally make everyone happy, holding hands and singing Kum-Bay-Yah while pissing away trillions of dollars on forced abortions and medical marijuana for illegal aliens.

A funny thing happened on the way to fiscal responsibility, though. Have a look at this graph, representing national debt as a percent of gross domestic product. (I found this on C&L but it originates, I think, here.)

Gosh, and golly, who are the responsible ones again? The ones who have to step in and make tough, grown-up decisions instead of throwing hissy fits, in order to turn the country’s economy around--for everyone, not just Wall Street greedy dickwads.

Erm, I mean, 'bankers.'

And even more hilarious, if it weren’t so sad, is politicians suddenly finding their sense of fiscal restraint, now that Obama is in charge. Where were these guys when Bush was pissing away our projected 5 trillion dollar surplus? Oh yeah, they were rolling in dough that was being thrown at them from guys like this.

Well, they rediscovered fiscal responsibility. Now if only they could discover shame.

bill hicks on rush limbaugh

And here's a bonus post for you today. I don't know if you've been keeping up with the ridiculousness of the Republitards lately (or as they call them over at the wonderfully witty and snarky blog Stinque, the Conservative/Toddler party), but some of these guys are seriously going round the bend. They do not tolerate losing well. Only through lockstep obedience with a strong Dear Leader who doesn't have to listen to anyone are they able to feel secure and comfortable, and this upstart Obama with his filthy hippie fringe constituency (of, what, 54% of Americans?) is clearly not one of Our People.

Well, they are behaving like children, slightly insane children if you ask me, for instance preferring to block legislation designed to help out their constituents rather than go along with the dems' plan. And at the head of the retard parade sits Mr. Rush Limbaugh, the new titular chieftan of the Republitards. His latest bizarre rant (via C&L) compares democrats to murderers, rapists, and some 'muslim guy' who beheaded his wife.

Always classy, this guy.

At any rate, here is one of my favorite Bill Hicks bits, nailing Limbaugh way back when. It is completely NSFW, and perhaps even NSFA (not safe for anyone. :)

But it's funny as hell. Happy Friday!
