The Boys Next Door

This is the coolest thing I've come across in a while, via the always wonderful dangerous minds.

The Boys Next Door were one of Nick Cave's early bands, pre-Bad Seeds, pre-Birthday Party even. Here is an hour of raw footage shot at the Tiger Lounge in Swineburne College, Preston Institute of Technology in 1977 or 1978(!!) of an energetic young punk band that actually shows some songwriting chops. That part maybe shouldn't be so surprising: Also in the band is Mick Harvey, Cave's collaborator of 36 years (their musical partnership ended in 2009 when Harvey left the Bad Seeds.)

The video and sound quality vary wildly from songs to song, but it is highly listenable in places. If nothing else it's an interesting time capsule of the musical emergence of one of the most unusual and original and talented artists of our time.
